Comtemporay Metal opens new Studio 2017

Thank you for your support in 2016.

2016 has been an eventful year for Contemporary Metal.
Claire Townsend (co-founder of Contemporary Metal) and her family moved to the Gold Coast. Claire is truly missed at the studio.
Philip Noakes was appointed a Fellow of the Institute of Professional Goldsmiths (London) and was successful in being granted solo exhibition at Lawrence Wilson Gallery in mid 2019. This will be the first ever solo exhibition by a silversmith at Lawrence Wilson.
Philip Noakes and his partner purchased the next door premises (unit 6) to Contemporary Metal’s current location (unit 4) and have extensively renovated it as a modern studio for jewellery making and silversmithing for students and established practitioners. The images above are of the new studio during the move on the 19 Dec. 2016. More jewellery benches have been built over the last two weeks and reticulated gas and oxygen installed.

2017 will be no less eventful.
Several established Jewellers will be running workshops in 2017 and Helen Aitken-Kuhnen, co-owner of Bilk Gallery Canberra, who ran two successful enamelling workshops in September 2016 will be back to teach a Master Class in 2017.
